Details of our Rail brake pads

EFI manufacture brake pads for Light rail systems, Inter-City coaches and Tread brake blocks. EFI offer full scale inertia dynamometer test facilities for disc and block systems up to 300 km/h. The system is capable of route simulation for UIC, AAR and custom testing of types of friction braking.

E308
Asbestos free, organic based material developed for applications with a maximum speed of 120 km/h. This material gives better disc life and cleaner operation than the equivalent metallic based materials. Approvals in many European and American cities.

E349
Asbestos free material developed for applications with a maximum speed of 140 km/h. It contains no heavy metals or other compounds with known environmental hazards. It has found success on rapid transit, underground and Metro systems demanding frequent braking, with high rates of retardation and high disc temperatures.
E401
Asbestos free material designed specifically for the braking of railway vehicles. It has been developed to meet the criteria specified in the UIC code 541-3. It is therefore suitable for use on high speed Inter City passenger coaches, suburban multiple units and freight vehicles braking from speeds of 200km/h.

E500
Asbestos free material developed as a tread brake block in railway braking. Braking performance is that of the high friction "K" block, with stable friction in the range of 0.25-0.32 through a range of braking conditions and retains a high performance in wet conditions. Particularly recommended for use on main line and suburban passenger vehicles operating to a maximum speed of 160 km/h, giving economic block and wheel wear rates.
E501
A new friction material from EFI developed for use as a wheel tread brake block. The braking performance of E502 is designed to be interchangeable with that of cast iron, giving a product usually termed as an "L" block. The coefficient of friction is therefore low, generally in the range of 0.15-0.28 and this material offers a combination of improved wear rate and more stable friction in comparison with cast iron.
